Why would I carry more than state minimum liability limits?
While MN requires a base level of liability coverage, it’s not enough to properly protect your assets should an accident occur. The cost of medical care and vehicle values have increased over the years, meaning you can quickly exhaust your liability coverage if you choose state minimum limits. If that were to happen, you’d be responsible for any damages above and beyond your limits of coverage.
What’s the difference between comprehensive and collision?
Both comprehensive and collision cover your vehicle against physical damage but they apply to different causes of loss. Collision covers damage that results from an impact with another vehicle or object. Comprehensive covers damage from things other than collisions, including hail or vandalism.
Am I required to carry comprehensive and collision coverage?
You are not legally required to carry comprehensive or collision coverage. If, however, you have a loan on your vehicle, the bank or lender will likely require you to carry both.
